Native Americans and other indigenous people have burned sage since forever to cleanse a person or space.

Cooking, cleaning, topical treatments and beauty products are all  uses of Sage.

When you look at Sage as the herb that it is and what it can scientifically do then you understand why the indigenous people used this regularly as it is proven to lift mood and the energy of a space. Combine the smudging practice with a prayer and cleanse your person and space. Open windows and doors to release all negative energy when done.

I suggest you look into the benefits of burning other herbs as well.

As with everything use your natural instinct/intuition as we generally know what to do when allowed to be in a free natural state. Remember your ancestors did not need science. They were WAY MORE advanced.
